SEOUL -?The top nuclear envoy of the Republic of Korea (ROK) is scheduled to visit the United States this week for policy coordination on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), local media reported Tuesday.

Wi Sung-lac will leave for Washington Wednesday for meetings with Stephen Bosworth, the US point man on Pyongyang, and Clifford Hart, known to have been named special envoy for six-party nuclear disarmament talks, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The meetings will involve follow-up discussions concerning the DPRK, following inter-Korean and US-DPRK talks in July, Yonhap quoted an unspecified source as saying. The rare talks raised hopes the six-party negotiations, stalled since 2008, could resume at an early date.

Wi's visit comes after top DPRK leader Kim Jong-il reportedly agreed to consider a moratorium on nuclear weapons test and production in a recent meeting with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.

Pyongyang unilaterally quit the disarmament-for-aid talks in 2009, but has expressed its wish to return to the negotiating table. Wi is expected to return home on Saturday.
