The Shenzhen meteorological bureau would keep a close watch on the weather during the Universiade in August when there was rain or thunderstorms on an average of every two days.

The bureau also planned to use artificial means to induce rain before it reached the venues of the opening and closing ceremonies.

However, a meteorologist said it would take at least 24 hours for cloud seeding to have an impact in designated areas.

There was also the possibility of a typhoon and torrential rain and high temperatures, according to bureau records, yesterday’s Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

About Shenzhen

Shenzhen is located at the southern tip of the Chinese mainland on the eastern bank of the mouth of the Pearl River and neighbors Hong Kong.

The brainchild of Deng Xiaoping, the country's first special economic zone was established here by the Chinese Government in 1980. It has been a touchstone for China's reform and opening-up policy since then.
