The Qingdao Municipal Museum held a traditional Chinese calligraphy exhibition on Aug 28 with 46 works of art from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

The exhibition, the second program of a serial painting and calligraphy show in the city’s museum, will last until the end of November. All the exhibits are level one and level two national cultural relics. The museum provides a biography for each calligrapher as well as an introduction for each work, giving a thorough picture of the 600-year development process of traditional Chinese calligraphy in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The exhibits of the Ming Dynasty consist of cursive works by Wen Zhengming, Xu Wei, Dong Qichang, Mi Wanzhong, Han Shan, Liu Chongqing and other famous calligraphers. Some of the exhibits measure 3 meters in height. Masterpieces from the Qing Dynasty will present artistic aptitudes of prestigious calligraphers such as Liu Yong, Tie Bao, Zheng Banqiao and Huang Shen (two of the Eight Eccentrics Painters of Yangzhou), and Lin Zexu, the governor-general who banned opium trade.
