日前，日本國內(nèi)一項(xiàng)民調(diào)結(jié)果顯示，日本對中國“懷有親切感”的人數(shù)較去年下降5.2%，跌至歷史最低點(diǎn)。香港文匯報(bào)今天刊發(fā)社評(píng)指出，日本國內(nèi)“厭華情緒”滋長，對中日兩國來說都沒有好處。日本領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人必須停止參拜靖國神社，以修補(bǔ)中日關(guān)系的政治基礎(chǔ)。
外電報(bào)道中有這樣一句話：The shrine honors convicted war criminals along with 2.5 million war dead and the visits are regarded as an insult by Japan's neighbors. Many countries in the region suffered during Japan's wartime occupation and feel that Japan has not done enough toatone forits past.
日本領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人頻頻參拜靖國神社，絲毫沒有彌補(bǔ)戰(zhàn)爭過錯(cuò)的意思，極大的傷害了中國人民的感情。報(bào)道中的atone for 指的就是“補(bǔ)償（過錯(cuò)）；贖（罪）”。Atone一詞有“賠罪；償還”的意思。
比如：How can I atone for hurting your feelings? （我該怎樣做才能彌補(bǔ)對你造成的傷害呢？）
