Developing corporate culture is key to global strategy ( 2003-11-30 10:14) (Xinhua) Chinese enterprises have been urged to develop advanced corporate culture if they want to compete with their foreign counterparts at the international market. "Creating an excellent corporate culture like leading Chinese home appliances maker Haier Group, is the guideline for Chinese companies in mapping their global strategy," said Hu Ping, director of the China Research Institute of Enterprise Culture, at an international forum that opened here Saturday. The three-day Sino-Foreign Enterprise Culture Qingdao Summit 2003, hosted by the Chinese institute, will focus on the influence of cultural differences on business operation in China, integration of Chinese and foreign corporate cultures, the corporate culture of China's state-owned enterprises, the Olympic Games and corporate culture, and other topics. John Lombard, chief cultural consultant of New Leaders International Corp. of the United States, said China is undergoing great changes. Therefore, Chinese companies must seize the opportunity to readjust their corporate culture, especially when facing international competition. For Chinese companies, he said, learning to understand the cultural differences between China and foreign countries and getting to know how to integrate them are the keys to success. Chinese economist Wang Jue urged Chinese companies to pay attention to service culture, which is an important part of corporate culture. Humanity, credibility and innovation are also key factors in corporate culture, which should be taken into consideration by Chinese companies, he added.
