BEIJING -- A train derailed early Tuesday in China's northern Hebei Province, but no injuries were reported and all the carriages remained upright, according to Beijing's railway authorities.

The train was going to Beijing from Hancheng, a city in China's northwestern Shaanxi Province. The last six carriages of the No.1164 train came off the rails at 7:36 a.m. in a suburban area less than 100 km from the capital, said an official with the Beijing railway bureau.

The derailed coaches were disconnected at the scene and passengers arrived at the Beijing West Railway Station safely with the rest of the train at 12:53 p.m., two and a half hours later than the scheduled arrival time.

Two other trains, which ran on the same track, were delayed due to the derailment, said the official.

Five of the six derailed coaches had been restored and repairs were still underway, he said.

The bureau was investigating the cause of the accident, he said.
