Eighteen international students from countries including Russia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Uganda, and Sri Lanka visited the Bi Sheng Movable-Type Printing Experience Center in Zhangye, Gansu province, on Sept 25.
Wearing hanfu (traditional Chinese attire), they learned about this Chinese intangible cultural heritage under the guidance of instructors. The students learned the entire process, from selecting characters and choosing type molds to applying ink, gently placing paper, and evenly brushing to make impressions. One after another, ancient poems appeared on their papers.
The students were delighted to show each other their finished prints, enjoying both the charm of this cultural heritage and the hands-on learning experience.
Zhangye has been integrating cultural learning with tourism and community development by offering themed study tours and immersive workshops. The city aims to bring traditional crafts to life for visitors while supporting rural vitalization and cultural preservation.
