Xi addresses SCO summit meeting in China's Tianjin


TIANJIN -- President Xi Jinping addressed the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in North China's port city of Tianjin Monday morning.
Xi hails groundbreaking, historic achievements in SCO development, cooperation
TIANJIN -- The member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have brought about groundbreaking and historic achievements in the organization's development and cooperation, said President Xi Jinping.
Xi made the remarks on Monday while addressing the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in North China's Tianjin municipality.
"We were the first to set up a military confidence-building mechanism in our border areas, turning our extensive borders into a bond of friendship, mutual trust and cooperation," Xi said, as he listed a series of "firsts" accomplished by the SCO member states.
They were the first to take multilateral actions against the three forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and were the first to launch Belt and Road cooperation, Xi said.
"We were the first to conclude a treaty on long-term good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, proclaiming our commitment to forge lasting friendship and refrain from hostilities," he continued.
The member states were also the first to put forth the vision of global governance featuring extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit as an effort to practice true multilateralism, Xi added.
SCO has grown into world's largest regional organization: Xi
TIANJIN -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has grown into the world's largest regional organization, President Xi Jinping said on Monday.
Xi made the remarks while addressing the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in North China's Tianjin municipality.
The SCO boasts the participation of 26 countries, with cooperation covering more than 50 areas and a combined economic output of nearly $30 trillion, he said.
"Its international influence and appeal are increasing day by day," Xi said.

"SCO member states are all friends and partners," he said, calling on the member states to respect their differences, maintain strategic communication, build up consensus, and strengthen solidarity and collaboration.

He called on the member states to leverage the strengths of their mega-sized markets and economic complementarity between them and improve trade and investment facilitation.

Xi made the remarks while addressing the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO held in Tianjin.
"SCO member states need to enhance mutual understanding and friendship through people-to-people exchanges, firmly support one another in economic cooperation, and jointly cultivate a garden of civilizations in which all cultures flourish in prosperity and harmony through mutual enlightenment," Xi said.
Xi calls on SCO to uphold fairness, justice
TIANJIN -- President Xi Jinping called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to uphold fairness and justice while addressing the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO on Monday.
"We must promote a correct historical perspective on World War II, and oppose the Cold War mentality, bloc confrontation and bullying practices," Xi said.
Xi also called for safeguarding the UN-centered international system, and supporting the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core.
Xi underscores real results, high efficiency for SCO
TIANJIN -- President Xi Jinping on Monday called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to strive for real results and high efficiency.
Xi made the remarks at the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO held in the port city of Tianjin on Monday.
He urged putting into use the SCO Universal Center for Countering Security Threats and Challenges and the SCO Anti-drug Center and setting up an SCO development bank as soon as possible to provide stronger underpinnings for security and economic cooperation among member states.
China to provide 2b yuan in grant to SCO member states within this year: Xi
TIANJIN -- President Xi Jinping on Monday pledged to provide 2 billion yuan (about $281 million) in grant to member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization within this year.
Xi made the remarks at the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO held in the port city of Tianjin.
China will also issue an additional 10 billion yuan in loan to the member banks of the SCO Interbank Consortium over the next three years, Xi added.
China's investment stock in other SCO member states has exceeded $84 billion, and its annual bilateral trade with other SCO member states has surpassed $500 billion, according to Xi.
