The cargo vessel MERATUS KUMAI departed Xiamen Port for Indonesia carrying marble products and other goods, marking the maiden voyage along the new Xiamen-Indonesia shipping route.

With Indonesia's formal accession as a BRICS member this year, economic and trade exchanges among BRICS nations have grown increasingly robust.

As a major coastal economy and renowned hometown of overseas Chinese in Southeast China, Fujian province enjoys unique advantages in economic cooperation with Indonesia spanning trade, investment, maritime economy, and other key sectors.

As of now, Xiamen Port has established 24 maritime BRICS routes, connecting 20 major ports across six BRICS nations including India, Indonesia, and South Africa. These shipping lanes transport Fujian's characteristic products from apparel and footwear to home furnishings and sanitary ware to global markets.

The new monthly shipping service departs from Xiamen and calls at Qingdao and Shanghai before sailing directly south to Jakarta. It is loaded with cargo at Jakarta, Surabaya and Makassar before returning to Xiamen.

Compared with traditional Indonesia routes from Xiamen Port, this optimized route features fewer port calls and approximately 25 percent transit time, significantly improving operational efficiency.
