    Inner Mongolian writer wins Lu Xun Literature Prize

    The Seventh Lu Xun Literature Prize announced its final winners for 2014-17 in Beijing on Aug 11, who included Inner Mongolian writer Baoerji Yuanye. He won for his prose anthology A Flow of Trotting Horses.

    One of the country's top literary prizes, the Lu Xun Literature Prize was established to honor the celebrated Chinese author who was active in the early 20th century and is considered a forerunner of modern-day Chinese language and literature.

    Thirty-four individuals were awarded in seven categories: novellas, short stories, reportage, poems, essays, theoretical reviews and literary translations.

    Yuanye, born in July 1958, is an Inner Mongolian who grew up and was educated in Chifeng. As a productive writer, he has published over 70 works in a variety of genres such as short stories and novels. He is the vice-president of the Liaoning Writers Association.

    The Chifeng publicity department held a commendation ceremony for Yuanye to celebrate his achievements in literature on Aug 26. Yuanye shared his creation process applied in the winning anthology with the audience and gave a recital of some of his classic prose.

    Yuanye said that in recent years he has traveled through pastoral areas in Ar Horqin Banner and Barin Right Banner to visit local people such as horsemen, silversmiths and folk singers, a way of seeking creative inspiration.

    The anthology expresses the author's sensitive and broad feeling towards people living on the grasslands. When strolling alone on the broad grassland, he can always develop unique and original views and depict an assortment of characters, allowing readers to feel their tenacious, heroic and optimistic attitude towards life.
