MONTREAL, July 29 - Aaron Peirsol of the United States set a world record of 
one minute 54.66 seconds in the final of the men's 200 metres backstroke at the 
world championships on Friday. 
Peirsol shaved 0.08 seconds off the previous mark of 1:54.74 which he set at 
last year's U.S. Olympic trials at Long Beach, California.
